Fox News & Daily Tech report: Bugs Bunny and his ladyfriend agree that artificial penis tissue is promising (via Google News)

Gotta love it when Google matches the WRONG photo to the even more
WRONG news item. The Fox News article claims: "One day artificial
penis tissue could be grown to help men, new findings in rabbits now
suggest."

And I suppose Bugs Bunny and his ladyfriend are the rabbits the
article refers to?? Hot damn--those are some fun clinical tests!
Bug's girl is HOT... ;P

Ah, Google! You're so much better than getting news from the News, but
for crying out loud, man, someone should be paying attention to this
stuff!!

After 3 days off, "Manhattan Story" is back on track with 16,571 words! That's 87 pages to you and me. NICE.

Very comfy with my return to action. Though looking at the progress
my writing buddies have made, I'm going to have to bust my ass to get
back in the lead... no more days off, dammit!

Time Warner cable broadband sucks. They've shut down all of upper Manhattan's Internet...

or at least all of their Northern Manhattan customers' Internet from midnight tonight until 6am. They did this with no warning at all. No email. No phone call. Not so much as a mention in the last bill.

Hm, I wonder how they'd like it if all of their customers ability to pay on time went down for maintenance without warning.

It's not like we can just go with another provider. Last year I found that TW is the cheapest of the three providers here in NYC.

Sure wish the OLPC XO had taken off more. Then, at least, I could connect to another XO out in Jersey and borrow their Internet.

How am I posting this? My iPhone and T-Mobile's Edge network. Of course, I can't effectively research my novel on my iPhone. Let's hope it all comes out of my head tonight...

NSFW for sure!

finally the economy is taking off again, isn't it? via http://blogdrop.posterous.com (@blogdrop)

But isn't this always the dynamic? The "captains" always feel like they're flying while the rest of us poor-folks struggle to get by.

Middle-class? Can I see some numbers to prove we still *have* a middle class, please?

Like Lego? Then check out this Lego pr0n! (It's only porn if you REALLY like Lego!) via Brickopolis' Flickr

It's amazing to me how just the sound of Lego bricks still makes me smile. It reminds me of countless hours building and creating as a kid. It makes me miss doing things with my hands so much.... thank you Brickopolis for reminding me that I was born to build :)

The 2 books a famine-stricken 14 yr-old Milawi boy used to bring eletricity to his home. via @curiouslee's flickr

From the caption to this pic taken by Mike Lee and posted by him to his flickr:

"At age 14, a boy in Malawi named William Kamkwamba used two books to learn how to build a windmill from scrap parts to generate electricity. This was just after dropping out of school due to famine. Here are photos of my used copies of the books Using Energy and Explaining Physics that William found in the USAID library in his village. Now at age 22, he is touring the world to promote his bestselling book, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind."

Hit the flickr link above to check out Mike's original post and more links related to this story (including a link to Kamkwamba's blog).

Most impressive Jack-O-Lantern you'll ever see. via http://blogdrop.posterous.com

Makes me want to go watch "Predator" again.

Though, to be fair, I shouldn't have suggested this was a "jack-o-lantern" since there's no candle inside, but maybe there is and they just forgot to light it.

Illustration of what Space Invaders might really look like via http://blogdrop.posterous.com

I love seeing stuff like this. Classic iconography reimagined for something much closer to our real world while still maintaining respect for the original work. Good stuff!

Stills of and from Fort Tryon Park 20091108 taken with my Zi8

I got there at the end of a warm afternoon--it had just squeaked past
70 degrees out and the sun was starting to set. I really lucked out
timing-wise and it was a great test of my Zi8's ability to take
stills, both in low light and in *very* low light. :) It did pretty
well--still, I wish it had a flash. Had to get out of there pretty
quick as it got chilly fast--but that didn't stop me from taking some
night-time shots.

More iPhone pics from Fort Tryon--it was a nice (and warm!) day today.

Two of these are shots of Fort Tryon Park facing west. Two others are facing east after dark and the las one is of the creepy walkway I took to get out of there. Actually, there was a creepier one but it was too dark to take pics...

Task list as long as my arm and TODAY it decides to get up to 70 out? Sheesh...

Maybe I'll set up some video conversions, start an HD upload, grab my netbook and do some writing in the park...

Yikes! Sunset at 4:43PM! I better get moving if I don't want to be out there in the dark!

Bored at your keyboard? Don't look under the spacebar--you might fight this...

It's amazing that so much crap gets under there even though this is one of those Mac laptops with the keyboard that isn't supposed to let this sort of thing happen...

To a control freak like me this is enough to keep me from writing until I clean it.

Life in a big city like NYC is a juxtaposition of themes...

Bedrock, trees that change color in fall, cloned apartment buildings, cars (yes, people do still drive here, don't know why) and sometimes huge piles of trash (lots of people means lots of consuming). This was taken on the way back from voting last Tuesday (that's Broadway up ahead).

Busy day today--but I did want to mention that I cracked 11k on my #NaNoWriMo 2009 novel last night. I'm psyched!

Just finished Chapter 4 of my #NaNoWriMo 2009 novel "Manahattan Story" with 8580 words down!

So, that makes just 41,420 to go. Wow. When I put it that way, it
still seems rather daunting still, doesn't it?

Hm, well, I should probably just focus on the fact that I'm already
closing in on the first 10k after just four days! Pages-wise, it's
even more impressive since I'm now onto page 45. However, I'm
double-spacing this year, so compared to previous years, I'm only as
far as page 22 or 23. :(

Regardless, I'm enjoying it so far. Have you been following along? If
not, why not give it a read? I don't use big words and, so far, I'm
not exploring any huge concepts or anything. At this point, it's just
a mystery/thriller. There's even a robot!

Check it out: http://ManhattanStory.tumblr.com

Or download PDFs for each chapter from it's page on TheWikiPeteia:
http://wiki.thepete.com/w/ManhattanStory

Do let me know what you think, if you do have a read. I'm always open
to opinions, good or bad. Just don't bag on the 1st-draftedness of
it. Typos, grammatical mistakes, and stuff like that are just not
important at this stage in the game.

Do the characters and story seem interesting? Do you want to know what
happens next? These are the questions I'd love to hear answered. :)
Thanks for checking it out, regardless!

Ghostdiving into my #NaNoWriMo novel a little early tonight. Chapter 4's page 1 looks inviting, doesn't it?

Hm... what word should I start with?
