Just got this email from Congressman Robert Wexler. Seems the head cop of America (Attorney General, Michael Mukasey) has admitted that he will not enforce contempt of congress citations against Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten for refusing to testify before Congress last year.
What does this mean to John and Jane Q. Public?
It means the head cop of America is refusing to enforce the law when it applies to friends of the White House.
What does this mean?
It means that the the White House is above the law.
See, Miers and Bolten broke the law by refusing to testify. But the head cop of the land won't go after them for it.
What's extra scary about this is what happens if the House and the Senate grow a pair and actually decide to impeach Bush and/or Cheney? Will the Attorney General allow that to happen? Seems like the next contempt of congress charges should be pointed at Mukasey--but who will enforce those??
