Inspired by my “Cesar” action figure (from “The Cabinet of Caligari” my favorite silent film), this guy came out of my head bent, sideways, at the waist. I realized, as I drew, that if he’d been standing straight, he’d have been too tall for the page. However, the real reason for drawing him was to play with cross-hatching. I wanted to experiment with changing the direction of the cross-hatching to see how things would look.
