Second story up, one window from the right is where our two cats, Ecksand Zaphod are pearched bravely observing the wild world of Manhattanoutside their current home. Squint and you can see them.

They've been through so much over the past three weeks, it's great tosee them having the courage to put just a window-screen betweenthemselves and the big scary city.

My Emotional Baggage

utterz-image
So after a day of wandering the Big Apple in search of apartments, wefind a Starbucks on Broadway open until 2am (at least on Fridays)TheWife and I sit down with our beverages-of-choice and I look over togaze, lovingly, into her eyes and the above is what I see.

"What's wrong, honey? Why are you looking at me that way?" she asks.

...three cheers for HUGE back packs.

Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream!!!!

utterz-image
TheWife literally gasped when we finally found the Ben & Jerry's IceCream named after Stephen T. Colbert at the Hampton Gourmet Market herein Hell's Kitchen, NYC. We've been looking for it since it first cameout but they never seemed to carry it in LA. We had to come all the wayto New York to find it. But finally...TRIUMPH!

Thanks to our awesome host, David, for pointing us to the HamptonMarket!!

I'm at a bar in Hell's Kitchen called V*ynl where they have themebathrooms. One for Cher, another for Dolly Parton, a third for Nellyand the last one for Elvis. I peed in the Elvis room. His cover of "MyWay" provided a brilliant crescendo as a shook-off :D

Video to follow...of the room--not of me shaking off. :)

TheNYC day 10: Starbucks Open 'til 1am

utterz-image
We've been on our feet since 10am this morning with a slight breakbetween 5 and 6. We saw 4 more apartments today, bringing our total to16 apartments seen. We've found another we like, but since we'rejobless we may not get it. This is the irony of moving to a totaly newcity--you can't easily get a place until you have a job, which is almostimpossible to get while looking for a place.

Don't even ask me about opening a bank account without a home address! (I just gave up and sent a check to my pal Edgyspice back in LA todeposit it into my LA bank account.)

In the meantime I got invited to take part in a custom Munny designcontest and art show at a gallery here in Manhattan. I picked up twoMunny's today and an 8-pack of Sharpies to get started (all of myexisting pieces are in boxes in a garage in New Jersey). I had wantedto pick up another 24-pack of markers at a Staples, but it closed at8pm. So much for living the city that never sleeps, right?

But things are cool otherwise. David, the friend we've been stayingwith, hasn't gotten sick of us yet, so that's good. Our younger cat hasbeen freakin' out every night, though. He'll climb on to one of David'staller chairs and then meow loudly over and over, waking TheWife and Iup. We are going to start giving him Rescue Remedy before we go to bednow, I think. Don't know what the little guy's problem is.

OK, I need to finish this post and get working on those custom Munnydesigns. I really hope something comes of the contest/gallery show. It's so weird (but cool) to think some of my work will be in a galleryin SoHo in a couple weeks. O_O

TheNYC day 7: Pinkberry in NY!!

utterz-image
Now this is surreal--we're doing something that we associate exclusivelywith Los Angeles in Manhattan. While there are easily dozens ofPinkberrys in LA there are only a single dozen of them here. We foundone just ten blocks north of where we're staying 9th/58th, so we decidedto stop by this evening and after a god three-week break, the green teafrozen yogurt was DELICIOUS!

Orgoo Not Quite Ready for Prime Time

utterz-image
While spending some semi-qualityish time online this evening, I saw that I got my invite to Orgoo.com, a sort of one-stop shop for all of your IM, email and contact needs. Think of it as Meebo on steroids.

So, I signed up for Orgoo, added my main IM accounts and one of my gmail accounts and gave it a trial, immediately running into trouble.

As the above screencap is evidence of, they're still in beta and should stay there for a bit. Check out how it renders the straight URLs my wife IMed me for apartment listings on Cragslist. Obviously, those links didn't work. :\

Keep at it Orgoo!

Anybody want an invite to give it a try? Let me know.

It's been a long, long day, but we got tix last night so we've got togo. To think if it weren't for some mysterious but kind New Yorker (whoreturned our wallet, which had our tix in) we'd be home resting ourfeetsies right now. :P

Thank you, kind person, who ever you are!

Spielberg, this better not suck! Popcorn and water x2 cost us just shyof 2. Thankfully, the Ziegfeld is roughly comparable to the ChineseTheater... *very* roughly comparable...

We're standing in line at the HUGE post office on the corner of 34th and8th in Manhat. It's MASSIVE and GORGEOUS (just look at the ceiling!). Sadly, the line is equally massive.

We're hoping that we can get a PO box without a static home address. Wehave our old PO Box in LA until June so hopefully that will work.

Wish us luck! This line is so long it'll rightly suck if they won'tgive us a box. :\

I need a box because banks won't give me an account until I have somesort of static address. Thanks a lot, Patriot Act! >_<

TheNYC day 2: New Shoes

utterz-image
So, for about 6 or 7 months I was wearing my pink Chuck replicas(they're actually sweatshop-free shoes from http://nosweatshop.com/ ). I've worn this style of shoe for years and *love* it. I wear them intothe ground, waiting until after they develop holes in the soles because,in LA, holes are no big deal.

Now, just before we started the move, I had to pack up my othershoes--two pairs of authentic Chucks (one pair I was married in, theother a pair of Product Reds) and three pairs of NoSweatShop brand Chuckreplicas (pink, red and black). The ones I had on had a hole in oneheel and both of the heel-supports (little bits of plastic that protectyour heel from rubbing against the raw canvas) had torn off. They stillwere comfortable to wear so I thought "I'll ditch these as soon as weget to NYC!"

Then, as I decided yesterday what to bring to the city and what to leaveat my cousin-in-law's in Jersey, I thought "Well, I won't need *all* myshoes until I get settled. I'll just stick with my pink NoSweats."

Well, today it rained and rained and rained and by about 3pm my rightfoot was soaking thanks to water leaking through the hole in the heel. When we met up with my old buddy Stew, he pointed us to a store calledShoe Mania. I found a pair of authentic X-hi Chucks for 5. I feel badfor the exploited kids who made them, but it's hard to be picky whenyou've got a sopping wet foot and a chance to solve the problem.

Still, they're great shoes--I love the x-hi style and they're comfy. Those Asian kids do make a good shoe. :\
