NYC Under Snow (01/27/11 edition)

My neighborhood looks very winter-wonderlandy this morning. I'm guessing about 6 inches fell. Maybe 8? The only plowed street in this batch of pics is Broadway. Bennett (the street people are walking down the middle of) may have seen a plow at some point before the snow stopped but 193rd and 192nd, definitely didn't and while the sidewalk outside my building was shovelled not all sidewalks were. Still, it's a gorgeous morning in NorMa* (North Manhattan) this morning.

*I'm 99% sure I'm the only person who calls Uptown Manhattan that.

The snow is falling on NYC BIG TIME. Just look at these pics...

This is the closest I've ever seen to a white out in NYC. Will post some video next.

The morning of the 12th, after the snow. Not a big storm, but I'm glad I had my new boots!

There's no way my chucks would have kept my feet warm and dry. Oh, and that last shot is from a window at my dayjob. Nice view from the hallway, huh?

Pics from Hanging with Stew on the 11th--the night before the first snow since the holidays

Once a month, my buddy Stew and I get together for coffee or whatevar. This month was the eve of a very minor snow storm. First, we went out for Korean dumplings. They were delicious! (The tan ones were pork, the green were veggie and the orange were seafood--my favorite). Afterwards, Stew waved at my new phone's front-facing camera. Then, I noticed a spot on the subway tracks where the third rail ended an then began again.

Finally, as I headed home from the subway, it began to snow (you can see it if you squint).

The boots I got from Kaufman's military surplus (and the wooden dollar-off "coupon" they gave me)

So, back on 1/11 we were expecting a big snowfall and all I had were a pair of ill-fitting rubber boots I bought for cheap back in 2008. So, I bought these for almost as cheap ($50). They handled the snow just fine though the amount that fell was not as much as some thought.

The other two pics in this set are of the wooden "coupon" they gave me at the surplus place I found the boots at. Sadly, they'll need to give me more than a dollar off to get me back in that place. There were just piles of stuff everywhere--there may have been shelves but I would have had to look past human-sized mounds of military surplus clothes and equipment. The place was like a retail trainwreck! Scary...
