Shock of shocks, Rove resigned. Any regular readers of mine might be wondering just what I think of this. Well, I have to say that I am thoroughly unsurprised. The only thing this means is that Rove still thinks the system works (at least, partially) because he's hoping to get out of the public spotlight so his roll in things can sneak by people and the press. Here's how this always works:
1) The heat is on a political figure.
2) Legal proceedings begin.
3) Political figure lays low to stay out of the way of the press--out of site is out of mind for those lazy idiots.
4) Continue your life as an unconvicted criminal.
Hey, it worked for Ashcroft and long before that, it worked for Nixon.
So, off Rove goes! Hoping his destination is the proverbial cornfield where no one will ever hear from him again (and vice versa).
Of course, it's up to the media and then the USG to ignore his escape attempt and keep him in the Prison of the Public Eye until justice is done and the truth is fully exposed and properly lit.
