I'm not sure what this means or even if it's true (this <em>does</em> come from a <em>British</em> paper--you know how <em>they</em> are!) so, I'd take this with a grain of salt. That said, http://DailyMail.co.uk is [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=464921&in_page_id=1811|reporting] that Putin and pals have laid claim to all the riches (resources) of the Arctic. Here's a cutting:<blockquote><i>Russian President Vladimir Putin is making an astonishing bid to grab a vast chunk of the Arctic - so he can tap its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth.

His scientists claim an underwater ridge near the North Pole is really part of Russia's continental shelf.

One newspaper printed a map of the "new addition", a triangle five times the size of Britain with twice as much oil as Saudi Arabia.</i></blockquote>

What the hell does this mean for America and/or the west (and our economy)? Beats the crap out of me. I suppose, in theory, if Russia is able to get those resources out of the Arctic and into use that would make the cost of oil (and other resources) go down since the Russians wouldn't need to import as much. Less demand, equals lower price. So, it could mean good things for us poor folks. Then again, for the rich folks who like having high prices for things like oil, it might mean a reason to lobby the U.S.G. into going to W.A.R. with what used to be the U.S.S.R.

Yeah, like we really even need an excuse at this point.

But remember, this story comes from a newspaper that also [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=465969&in_page_id=1773&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=picbox&ct=5|reported on how Scarlett Johansson has a big ass]. I think it's just right, thank you very much.<br /><hr /> Orignal From: <a href="http://thepete.com/uk-paper-russia-plants-flag-in-arctic/" target=_blank>UK PAPER: RUSSIA PLANTS FLAG IN ARCTIC</a><br />
