CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954) (In 3 D!)

[asin: B0002NRRRY] dvd above is not in 3-D
Positive Experience/Entertaining? DEFINITELY. Sure, it's dated, but there are still a few genuine scares in there. Also, there's a wonderfully subtle pro-environment, anti-human message in there that I'm not even sure the filmmakers were aware of.
Technically any good? Anyone who says the FX in this suck needs to get a clue. The Creature's costume REALLY WORKED. The dude could survive underwater for (I think it was) fifteen or twenty minutes. And don't tell me there's nothing creepy or at the very least freaky about a man with a fish-face. The acting was stilted and overdone, but that's standard for these kinds of movies. The script was nice and solid and even had that subtle pro-environment element I mentioned above. Very cool.
How did it leave me feeling? Definitely satisfied. Seeing it in 3-D on the big screen is definitely the best way to see this movie, though I've seen it on TV before and it's still pretty fun.
Final Rating? SIYL - See If You Like - if you dig classic horror that will make you laugh but still give you a couple decent scares this is a great film to check out.
