SUV CRASHES INTO AIRPORT, ASSUMED TO BE TERRORISM

As I type this blog entry I am sitting in a coffee house in Hollywood waiting for my writing pal, Chris, to show up. I just checked the news to discover that an SUV has crashed into the Glasgow airport in Scotland. Now, CNN.com has reported that the UK has elevated itself to the highest terror warning level they have. This I totally understand since this SUV crash could be terrorism. However, what I don't get is the instant assumption by some that it is definitely terrorism. In reference to the foiled car bomb from yesterday in London, [http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070630/D8Q38HGO0.html|an article dated today] from AP.org available at MyWay.com reports:
"One has to conclude ... these are linked," Dame Pauline Neville-Jones, former head of Britain's joint intelligence committee, told Sky News. "This is a very young government, and we may yet see further attacks."
While this is par for the course these days, I have to say this kind of flippant, off-the-cuff commentary is very irresponsible coming from anyone inside or outside a government. Statistically the number of SUV accidents are a LOT higher than the number of terrorist attacks. So, let's just chill out until we know for sure that the SUV shows residue of explosive material. Let the experts do their jobs and we'll go from there. Of course, if there are a rash of car crashes this weekend all at public locations like airports or shopping malls, that would sway me, as well. That said, let's wait for the explosives experts to voice their conclusions before we announce that the UK is definitely under attack by terrorists.
