45 Detroit schools slated for closing under plan

DETROIT — A $1 billion plan from Detroit Public Schools' emergency financial manager calls for closing 45 schools during the next five years. The district expects an enrollment drop of about 30,000 students during that time.
...
Detroit also closed 35 buildings about three years ago. The Kansas City, Mo., school district announced plans last week to shut down nearly half that district's schools by the start of classes in the fall amid falling enrollment.
Sure, sure, the schools are only closing because enrollment is dropping--but why is enrollment dropping? Because folks are leaving the city thanks to it's complete lack of apparent prosperity. It's called the city is dying.
Yeah... things are really looking up for America when one of it's most prosperous cities (at one time) now finds itself not only so broke it's decided to bring 25% of it's homes to the ground but now it is shutting down 45 schools.
Which city will be next, I wonder? Looks like Kansas City, Mo, is already starting to crumble, as well. Is this the beginning of a domino effect? Regardless, I'm not getting the "things are turning around" vibe the USG has been trying to spin on us lately... are you?
