MORE US SABER RATTLING AT IRAN

I've been told by a lot of rational, smart people that there's no way the US can do anything militarily against Iran. Our military is stretched too thin and Iran's military is actually formidable, unlike Iraq's was when we invaded them. I would agree with said smart people, if only logic had any part in the White House's decision making process. Over the past few months we've seen a naval build up in the Persian gulf. I know there are at least two US Navy carrier groups over there now and I've heard that there is supposed to be a third showing up soon. However, the two that are there are not waiting for three to be a crowd. Check out this cutting from [http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=6285824&nav=23ii|a March 27, 2008 article] from AP.org available at WAVY.com that details what those boats have been up to over there:
In an exercise that's sure to heighten tensions with Iran, the U-S Navy has been staging its largest show of force in the Persian Gulf since the invasion of Iraq. The exercise included 15 warships and more than 100 aircraft. Iran has frequently criticized American presence off its coast and is in a face-off with the West over its nuclear program and its capture of a British naval team. U-S commanders are insisting that the exercise is not in response to the seizure of the British sailors, but says it was intended as a warning.
It's pretty obvious what these exercises are a warning of. Things are getting tense over there and you wonder if Iran is calling the West's bluff by nabbing those UKGIs. Remember folks, we get a stack of oil from Iran. If there's a war with them, we'll see our gas prices go even higher. We'll also see our military get stretched even thinner which means defense of the "homeland" will be even weaker. Lots of ripple effects to an Iran Attack. Let's hope it doesn't happen. Sadly, there is mounting evidence that seems to suggest it's a foregone conclusion. Scuttlebutt is that we'll see it before the end of spring if we see it at all.
