Finally! The oil geyser in the Gulf of Mexico has been stopped (MAYBE)!

Screencap source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/04/AR20100604001...

"It was not an elegant operation. Furious clouds of oil escaped the "top hat." Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the national incident commander for the spill, called the development a positive step but said, "It will be sometime before we can confirm that this method will work and to what extent it will mitigate the release of oil into the environment."

Color me cynical, but I have a feeling it won't be as easy as this to stop the leak. I mean these guys have screwed everything else up so far.

And if, with a LOT of luck, this has stopped the leak, the USG still needs to hold BP financially and criminally responsible. They've now admitted that they were not prepared:

"What is undoubtedly true is that we did not have the tools you would want in your tool kit," BP Oil Disaster CEO was quoted as saying in the above WaPo article.

This should be treated as a confession of criminal negligence. If these guys are not put in jail other oil execs will not take the lesson to heart. You think the heads of Exxon/Mobil or Unocal give a crap about some fish getting oily? They just want their money.

SIDENOTE: weeee! It's fun having only my iPhone to blog with...(not really) My net connection is still down but I saw this and had to post about it.
