NYTimes reports FAILBomber suspect "linked" to militant cleric (it's not like Faisal friended him on Facebook)

Times Sq. Bomb Suspect Is Linked to Militant Cleric

WASHINGTON — The Pakistani-American man accused of trying to detonate a car bomb in Times Square has told investigators that he drew inspiration from Anwar al-Awlaki, a Yemeni-American cleric whose militant online lectures have been a catalyst for several recent attacks and plots, an American official said Thursday.

In that case, that headline should be:

Times Sq. Bomb Suspect Is HyperLinked to Militant Cleric

I'm really starting to tire of this absurd over dramatization of this "terrorist" and how much of an actual "threat" he was/is to us. Adding fuel to this fire is McCain and Lieberman are talking about passing an absurd law that will give the USG the ability to revoke the citizenship of any American citizen aiding terrorists. Neat how Lieberman and McCain think it should be OK for Government to determine a citizen's right to live here or not.

That issue aside, it's an even more absurd law considering we can't universally define what a terrorist is--how can we agree what aiding a terrorist is? Would I be in trouble if I held the door for Faisal Shahzad at the Home Depot? What if I let him borrow a book of matches last Saturday night without knowing he wasn't a smoker?

Regardless, here comes the New York Times, the alleged "newspaper of record" with a headline that suggests a concrete connection between Faisal and a militant cleric... the catch is, Faisal never met the guy, but he'd been to the dude's website a bunch of times.

So, in that sense, I could be linked to Clay Shirky, or Cory Doctorow because I've been to both of their sites! No, bad example since I have had some actual interaction with both of them (which is more interaction than Faisal seems to have had with that cleric)--WAIT! Clearly, I'm in league with PORNOGRAPHERS because I've visited ClipHunters.com!!

SIGH...

Relax kids. This guy Faisal is a joke. He built a "bomb" that didn't go off out of crap he bought at an Ace Hardware or someplace. He then waited a day to leave the country!! What a moron. To think US authorities were bragging about taking just 53 hours to catch the guy. If he hadn't been such a LOSER, he would have gone STRAIGHT to JFK from his SUV--this is just common sense. Nimrod...

Then, today, we have not one, but two, COMPLETELY FALSE ALARMS in NYC over "suspicious packages." The first happened this morning at 9am when a "suspicious" bag was found:

Within 30 minutes, police officers cleared the area and brought in a bomb squad to check the bag. They found a gray shirt, white tube socks, a toothbrush and pens.

The second was a cooler containing books and a bottle of water.

You know, statistically, most discarded bags on the street in NYC aren't bombs.
